Today, we are going to write an essay on
THE PEACOCK
The peacock is our national bird. It is found in India nd Shri Lanka. It lives on trees. It is a large and splendid bird with a long neck and a fine crest on its head. The size of the peacock is about 110 to 120 cm. Its feathers on the back are green. Its head, neck and breast are deep blue. Each feather has a heart- shaped spot ringed with blue, green, gold and brown. They are called eyes. The peacock spreads its tail like a big fan. It dances and shrikes when the rains come.
It makes shrill screaming sounds loke 'miyao, miyao'. Its spread-out tail looks beautiful.
The peacock cannot fly very high but it can run fast, The peacocks feed on seeds, grains, groundnuts, shoots, flowers, berries and tiny creatures.
The female, who is called peahen, lays 4 to 8 eggs in the nest made on the ground. The peacocks grow fast and live for about 30 years.
The peacock has a special place in our songs, arts and stories. It is a great joy to watch the paecock dancing with its tail spread out. I like it very much.
