English essay On - THE CAMEL
Today ,we are going to learn the english essay on the pet animal ' THE CAMEL'.
THE CAMEL
The camel is a tame animal. Camels are found in Africa, Central Asia, India, Mongolia and Australia. Their main habitats are deserts and grasslands.
The camel stands from 1.8 to just over 2 metres tall at the shoulders and its ropelike tail is about 50 cm long. The camel looks very strange and ugly with its long and high neck and a hump on its back. It has long thin legs and wide, padded feet. Its padded feet help it to walk and run on sand. It can bear terrible heat.
It looks ugly but is a very useful animal in the deserts. It can carry heavy loads on its back during the long journeys across the sandy deserts. It lives on grass, thorny bushes, dates and dried beans. It can live without food or water for many days. Its hump gives it protection from the sun by absorbing heat and carries fat stores. It can store water in the stomach lining.
A strange thing about camel is that, during a continuous period of water shortage, it can lose 27% of its body weight without any bad effects and this weight can be recovered in 10 minutes by drinking water.
The female camel gives birth to a single calf every alternate year. The calf suckles for a year although it starts nibbling vegetation as soon as it is born.
The camel is rightly called 'the ship of the desert'.
